On August 3rd my 21-year-old niece, Paige was a passenger in a terrible car accident. We are so thankful that she survived and should have a full recovery, but her expenses are more than she can handle.
She was in ICU for a couple days and is home recovering now.
Paige has a crushed vertebra and another one that is chipped, 5 broken ribs, and a broken collar bone. Because her lungs were partially detached in the accident, she has pneumothorax, which is an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between the lung and the chest wall. This causes chest pain and shortness of breath. Her recovery will be long and slow, with more doctor visits and hospital bills than she can imagine. She will have to be off work for at least 6 weeks.
She is a student who works part time and does not have insurance. The cost of the small things like rent, electricity, phone and gas are first on her need list. But doctor visits, medications, therapy and treatments come at an overwhelming cost.
Her mom, Carleen is single and works hard at her waitress job to cover their daily expenses and has always made sure that needs are met, but this accident has really shaken them both.
Any help they get will be appreciated. I left the goal amount at $1 because whatever you can do will be helpful.
Thank you for your support and for sharing.
