Paddling 2,500kms to Alaska

Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Taylar and I am going to embark on a challenging and what I hope is a life changing expedition. As a novice kayak paddler I am going to join two Australians in an exploratory 2,500km paddle from Vancouver, Canada along the remote and exposed West Coast to Skagway, Alaska. The trip will be difficult, dangerous, and beautiful. According to our research I will be the first female in recorded history to attempt this route along what we are calling the Outside Passage, referencing the historic and more protected Inside Passage.

We are expecting to take around two months to complete the trip and our expected launch date is mid-June 2018. We will be carrying all of our equipment and nearly all of our food with us in our kayaks, and we will be camping along the way on exposed beaches or tucked away in the wilderness. The journey is not a race nor are we out to break any records. It is about being out in nature in our purest form; without motors or fuels or exhaust. Some days it will be as much a mental battle as a physical battle, and a true test of character.

I have spent extensive time living in remote bush camps in northern Canada during my summers as a tree planter. It is from those years that I will draw strength and comfort in the discomfort of living and working in the outdoors during this paddle.

As women, we are taught to live in boxes, taught to limit ourselves without even knowing we're doing so. But day by day I see more rad women out there breaking the boundaries set out for them.

This is what is driving me to complete this expedition. Women are out there every day pushing the limits of what we have been told we can do with our bodies. We are out there in the cold, the heat, on the water, in the mountains. We are running, climbing, boarding, paddling, hiking, cycling past men’s expectations. If we put our minds to it we can achieve the unthinkable and we can push past our own expectations.

I have been given an opportunity to partake in an adventure and share my experiences with the hopes of inspiring both women and men to work towards their own dreams or adventures. That is why I will be raising money for this expedition, and all proceeds raised will go directly to the trip.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you so much for your support!

Every little bit means a lot,

Tay
