Pablo’s Recovery

Donation protected
Those of you that know Pablo personally know how full of spirit he is. Never without a smile on his face, Pablos happiness is contagious and sure to uplift the mood of anyone he comes across. A loving father, son, brother, boyfriend, friend, dancing machine and talented tattoo artist on a mission to enjoy life to the fullest and make sure all of those around him are doing so as well. Unfortunately, on October 29th, 2018 he dove into the ocean and hit a sand bar, causing a traumatic neck and spinal cord injury. Luckily his friend was able to jump into the water shortly after, flip him over and hold him afloat. From there he was transported by jet ski and helicopter to UF Health in Jacksonville, FL where he spent about 6 weeks in ICU fighting for his life. Pablo was quickly admitted for surgery on his neck and was also placed on a ventilator, diaphragm pacer and every tube you can think of. While in the hospital he faced many challenges from breathing difficulties to infections but continued to fight hard every single day and improved enough to finally get discharged to go to an acute care rehab facility for another 6 weeks. He has improved greatly and was released to go home but we still have a long road ahead of us after an injury of this magnitude. Doctors believe that the odds to ever walk again are not in his favor; but he has surprised his doctors with his positive attitude and determination. We know it will take years of physical therapy to get any kind of normal mobility back and friends and family are willing to do anything to get him the care that he needs. He hopes to go to an aggressive rehabilitation center and sadly, the cost will be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and is not covered by insurance. Obviously an injury is not something that one can plan for, and finances should not be a reason that he does not get treated. Any amount of money that can be donated is more than appreciated and will get us one step closer to getting Pablo back on his feet. The road to recovery will be long and faith-testing but with prayers, positive thoughts and financial support, Pablo will be cruising down the path of healing in no time. He is ready to dance at a concert, hit the beach and eager to tattoo again. Updates will follow as days progress. We are taking it day by day and we are aware that this rehabilitation journey is going to be long and costly. We have started this GoFundMe to relieve some of the financial burden on our family through this difficult time, and to get Pablo the best care possible to move forward with his recovery. Thank you in advance to those that donate and are praying for Pablo.
