Joey's Surgery - LDOTFL

Donation protected
In the almost 2 years that Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes has been helping the lost and founds of our area, we've only posted a plea for donations once - and that was to save Brom who needed immediate surgery after being hit by a car and left to die in the middle of the road.  Thanks to your help and generosity, he is a happy and healthy boy now.

But now I come to you requesting your help for one of our very own.  For well over a year now, Charlene Mottler has been my left and right hand.  Without her I could not run Lost Dogs of the Finger Lakes.  She has driven roads looking for lost dogs. She has spent endless hours on the phone with frantic families, guiding them in what must be done to get their family member safely home.  She's stood with me in the snow, placing traps and following paw prints. LDOTFL is the caring and successful page that it is because of her selfless giving and countless hours of dedication and tenacity.

Last fall, Charlene's very best friend in whole world, Joey (her Border Collie), tore his right ACL. He underwent surgery at Colonial Veterinary Hospital in Ithaca - the best place to go handsdown. For 6 months I watched Charlene do everything by the book.  I watched her accomplish amazing feats to help get Joey back on all 4 of his paws.  They encountered set-backs, but Charlene kept at it.  She was the epitome of dedication and unconditional love. Needless to say it was an expensive endevor but one that all of us with much-loved pets would do without hesitation.  Charlene used the services of CareCredit and counted every penny throughout the winter months - winter months that hit her hard with heating bills and a lay off.  Despite this, she kept Joey moving forward and her responsibilities in check.

With spring and summer came not just warmer temps, but sunnier days. Within this last month Charlene has seen Joey finally released by the vet to resume normal activities and a new job to ease her finances and put a spring back in her step.

And then the call came late last night, "He's limping.  We're headed to Colonial."  The exam revealed that Joey has torn his left ACL. He is slated for his second surgery on Thursday.

Charlene always has been, and always will be, the kind that will never ask for help.  And, when she sees this, will fall apart and want to shake me at the same time.   I'm okay with that. Together we can help the woman who does so much to help the lost and found dogs of our community. Please help me help her by making a donation and easing the financial burden of Joey's second surgery.

Thank you!
