Andie’s Breast Cancer Battle
Donation protected
I received a phone call on 3/26/2018 that would forever change my life.
“Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma”; three big words for breast cancer...
After that call things started to move rather quickly. I assembled my team which I would later come to find out are two of the top surgeons in the area and underwent an almost 5 hour surgery on Friday 5/25/18 where I had a double mastectomy and tissue expanders placed.
I was sent home the next day with post operative instructions to care for my incisions, 4 drains and zero instructions on how to deal with the aftermath.
According to my surgeons at my post-op appointments , I am “healing nicely” and I should be “happy with the final results”. What the surgeons can’t help with is emotional and financial wounds.
My amazingly supportive husband is a disabled veteran, which comes with it’s own unique set of challenges. (unfortunately the military doesn’t teach you how to be a civilian again after 15 years of service). He is currently in school to learn a trade so he can one day help support our family.
I am the sole financial support of our family, and I can’t work while recovering, so not only am I faced with $8,000 in medical bills (so far) that my insurance doesn’t cover, but I am also out of work for 6 weeks with no pay, possibly more depending on what my Doctors say about my recover & treatment plan(s).
Any little bit you can donate will help lessen the financial burden on our already stressed out family, while I do my best to #FightLikeAGirl
