P31 Women Sponsoring Families

Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, TX with severe rain, tornadoes and flooding. As a result of this, many families have been left displaced due to the devastating storm.

The Proverbs 31 Women’s Organization is raising funds to directly support families in the Houston area experiencing severe flood-related damages due to Hurricane Harvey. Help us help the families who need it the most!

One of our sponsored family's story: King Family

"Upon waking up Sunday, August 27, 2017, at about 9:30am I walked outside and the flood waters were already at about 6 in. I thought about grabbing some things quickly and at least attempt to escape before it gets bad, but I did not want to put my family in harms way. I looked around and there were already smaller vehicles almost submerged, so I didn't even want to take the chance at possibly getting stuck in the rain and floods with my wife and 9 month old daughter. Instead, I moved my car up a little bit on the curb so it could be on an incline to avoid water damage to the engine."

"1:30pm: The water had reached about 2 ft. At this time I knew that we were trapped until the water either go down, or someone was to come and save us. We live on the 2nd floor, so if the water was to rise (which it did) we knew the worse thing that could happen is that we'll lose our car and property in it.

6pm: It's starting to get dark, and the water level was at about 4ft. We still had working electricity and enough food and water to last for a least 3-5 days so I didn't want to panic. I still called 911 to get us a boat out because the water seemed to only be rising and I didn't want to endanger my family. They told me that there's over 300 rescues, but we were one of the only two calls from my apt on the list at the time so someone should be there before 6am the next morning. I don't know if it's because of it getting dark and/or the weather being too rough. We waited and waited. No boats came to our apt until the next day.

6:30am, August 28, 2017, my sister, Santana called to check on us, and see if they came and got us yet. I walked outside, and the water was now at about 6 ft. Had my family and friends send some S.O.S. posts on social media while I try and contact 911. The boat came about 3 hours later.

The image of helping my wife get on the boat, and handing my daughter to a complete stranger so she wouldn't touch the water will never leave my mind. The firefighters who risked their lives, took time away from their own families, and the good samaritan giving free shuttle to shelter when we got off the boat are all the real MVPs. neither of us can say we seen this coming. This all escalated quickly, but I Thank God for faith and favor. Hurricane Katrina prepped me, so I knew we'd get through Harvey."
