Ozzy spent years serving our country...1st in the Army and then he was in the National Guardsman, then became a Policeman in Aurora, Colorado.

Ozzy has given so much of himself for others and now I want to do the same for him...
Ozzy is my husband. We got married on January 16, 2016. He is my best friend and after 11 years of knowing each other.
The the unexpected happened…

In February, he began to go through some health issues. He went to his primary care doctor and explained what was going on with him. His doctor went through many tests and many possibilities...weight issues, thyroids, maybe mental-health related? Still his health began to decline. Despite that, Ozzy continued to work.

In August, Ozzy began to have severe pains in his back and he was light-headed, very tired, and unable to work. One Saturday (in August) he began to have extreme pain in his back and side and I attempted to drive him to the ER....
He didn't make it 3 miles...I had to call "911" and pulled to the side of the road...to wait for help. Once at the hospital they performed an emergency gallbladder removal. If he had waited any longer, he could have died.

Within a month Ozzy was diagnosed with Luekemia.

He was put in the hospital in October of 2016 and stayed until November 2016.
Ozzys' doctors gave him rounds of chemotherapy as part of his treatment. Within 5 weeks, his cancer (Blasts) had tripled and he was told that he had AML and that he had 6 months to a year to live. Ozzys' Oncology doctor found a Study, that could save his possibly his life. In this study he has gone through 3 rounds of oral chemo and 6 bone cell biopsies (On the hips), several blood and platelet transfusions. Oz has lost over 60 lbs. and he hasn't worked since this all began in August 2016.

I'm his wife (Judy). I was injured on the job and had been on workers comp....I had just had 1 surgery in May 2016 and another surgery 1 week prior to all of this.

With Ozzy not able to work and me on Workers’ Comp (and now that's done) neither of us could/can work.

This therapy Ozzy went into is a stem cell transplant. They require that Ozzy has someone with him 24/7.  He takes approx. 20 different medications a day, some of which are blood thinners. I have been staying with him in ICU at the hospital.

We never would have imagined that we could lose our stability and even our housing due to an unforeseen illness. We have worked our whole lives and have always tried to help others. It is hard to say this, but we are now asking for YOUR help. We do not want for this experience to make us homeless. We need our home to heal and recover.
We are asking for a total of $9,852. Here is the breakdown of our outstanding expenses:

$4,500 behind in rent (this is after our landlord generously helped us out)
$2,152 behind in basic utilities
$2,000 behind in car payments (we both own 1 car each)
$200 to keep up with food/home costs
$1,000 in emergency money—some safety net to put in the bank
To Be Determined are our medical/hospital bills; we are figuring out
how insurance or the VA can help with these

Taking care of these bills will bring us up to date and ensure we have a safe place to call home. This is our immediate and short-term need. Just this March of 2017, Ozzy was approved for Social Security benefits! This will help with our needs moving forward. We are also looking into VA benefits as Ozzy is an honorably-discharged Veteran. Also, we are going to receive pro bono financial consultation to help with our future, as well as prepare us the best we can before we learn our out-of-pocket medical costs.

Ozzy spent years serving our country...first in the Army then in the National Guard, and then as a policeman in Aurora, Colorado.

Ozzy has given so much of himself for others and now I want to do the same for him, but I can’t do it alone.

Please consider making a gift to help us maintain our housing. Every penny adds us and helps.

Thank you.
