Ozark String Project Growth Fund
Donation protected
We have one goal for this fund raiser: A fund to purchase 4 violas
Organized in 2007, the Ozark String Project has an eleven year tradition of making music available to any student who wants to play. The Ozark String Project was founded in 2007 by Barbara Deegan at the Ava School District in Ava, Missouri. There were 12 students in the program during the first year, and the program has now grown to over 80 students. We exist almost grant free. The one grant we received was from the Sharon Gewirtz Kids to Concerts fund, and it was used to take the string project students to a Springfield Symphony (Missouri) concert. All of our other funds come from lesson fees (90%) and donations (10%).
The Ozark String Project is an after school program that strives to accomplish the following goals:
1. Affordable lessons for all students regardless of income.
2. Performance experience for all students.
3. Apprenticeship training for teachers.
4. A choice between group or private lessons.
I have personally seen amazing things happen with the students in our program. My greatest source of pride is knowing that our students are playing in the community: in churches, at family reunions, and at local events.
Donating to this fund not only helps students get access to stringed instruments. It also helps us promote an artistic culture. Successful rural string programs are rare. We are holding our own, but we could use a helping hand. I am always so grateful for donations! The students eyes light up when we place an instrument in their hands! Parents and students alike work hard to ensure their personal success!
