New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K
Tax deductible
The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School (UA-NYHS) trains and places high school students for maritime professions, while helping to clean and restore NY’s waterways through their work with the Billion Oyster Project. Graduates from UA-NYHS will go on to college and pursue Ocean & Aquatic studies, or straight to work within the maritime field. Additionally, some graduates join the Coast Guard via cadet training through fine institutions such as SUNY Maritime or the Maine Maritime Academy. As a parent of a graduating senior, its been exciting to watch my son become focused on all things aquatic. UA-NYHS has also put him on a college and career path which he is passionate about.
And he’s certainly far from being the only one. UA-NYHS changes lives, teaching a largely underserved student body about the value of environmental stewardship while preparing them for lucrative careers in Marine Policy, Ocean Engineering, Aquaculture, Vessel Operations, Marine Systems Technology, Marine Biology and Professional Diving.
On June 10th, UA-NYHS will host The New York Harbor Oyster Classic 5K, a major fundraiser to help support these and other programs many students within the school’s population would otherwise not have access. It is a large undertaking as the 5K race will accommodate up to 1500 runners on beautiful Governors Island.
We'd love for you to register for our race at www.oysterclassic5K.com. If you are unable to join us, we'd greatly appreciate your support by donating through this GoFundMe page.
