Owen's Road to a Healthy Heart

Owen was always a very healthy little boy, full of energy and lots of love to give. In the last year Owen's health began to change, what we assumed was just Asthma turned out to be much more. This past week Owen was diagnosed with Mobitz Type II Second-Degree Heart Block. What this means is Owen's heart is not receiving the necessary signals for his heart to pump correctly or at all. We have been referred to Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario to meet with the team of Cardiologists to discuss what comes next for Owen. That takes place April 12th. In most cases people with this condition have a pacemaker installed, and/ or removal of the blockage and that will be the case for Owen. Two years ago my husband decided he wanted to provide a better life for our family and went back to school for Mechanical Engineering. As a family of five you can imagine what kind of impact that had on our financial situation. Now in his last month of school things have to be put on hold in order to take care of Owen. We are in financial hardship, and don't have the money to be able to pay our bills here at home and take care of our other two kids while paying for expenses in Ottawa. Any funds we recieve will go towards the trips to and from CHEO as well as the expenses during the duration of his surgery and hospitalization.
