Help Philip Teach in Rural Nigeria

Donation protected

Thousands of smart but financially underprivileged students in Nigeria have been failed by the decay in the public educational system.  These students remain unexposed to challenging projects that would enhance critical thinking and maximize their potential. As a senior majoring in computer science at MIT,  and one who happened to be one of those students a few years back, I plan to spend two months after graduating  in June to teach fifteen students computer programming at Rochas Foundation College  in Kano Nigeria. I believe computer programming can offer these students a quicker path out of poverty, as they engage in mentally stimulating projects that could potentially spark their interests in software development. I am very excited about the opportunity to teach, but lack the funds needed to ensure that I successfully execute this project. The funds will enable me cover the following costs:

1) Hiring two Nigerian university students as  instructors to work with me.

2)     Purchasing textbooks  for teaching

3)    Operational/logistical costs of running the program. For example,  purchasing fuel/diesel oil to  provide electricity.

4)    Paying for internet routers/services at the project venue.

Please  donate and spread the word to make my idea breath life! These students need support and any amount you can give would go a long way in helping them learn and expand their horizons.

More context:
I attended Rochas Foundation College (same college as above), Kano from 2004-2010.

I applied to the MIT Public Service Center, but was denied funding because of 'instability in Nigeria.' But hey, you and I know that such problems should not stop smart students from learning. Lets make this happen!
