When you meet ALAN HILL for the first time it’s like he’s know you for years! He wears his heart on his sleeve and he’s not afraid to tell anyone and everyone how special “THEY” are.  Most of you know Alan through growing up in Fresno, Bullard High School and back in the days of Sunday football with the guys. Cambrians know Alan from The Cookie Crock Market where he ALWAYS greets everyone with a genuine smile, and constantly has the best attitude.  He sincerely loves this town and his job.

Alan moved to Cambria in 2012, married his high school sweetheart in 2013 and the next year his “bride” as he calls Nicole battled “Triple Negative Breast Cancer”.  Now they have another challenge to take on in their journey of life.

Alan has been diagnosed with a rather large “Posterior fossa arachnoid cyst” (tumor) and needs brain surgery as soon as possible.  Both neurologists he saw said they have NEVER seen a cyst this LARGE.  How scary is that? The operation is scheduled for Monday, November 27th at The UCLA Medical Center. Sending out prayer requests, positive thoughts and blessings for Alan, for Dr. Marvin Bergsneider, Professor of Neurosurgery and the UCLA medical team to take exceptional care of OUR Alan.

As we all know the financial cost hits hard in times like this.  Alan will be out of work for three weeks; two nights stay in the hospital and multiple trips to UCLA. We all know that the medical bills and expenses associated with this type of surgery will amount to THOUSANDS. To get the BEST treatment, we need to raise money. Please join us in helping one of our own.  Every little bit helps!

Although Alan will tell you “WE GOT THIS”!   It is my belief the “WE” is all of us.  I thank God that Alan has been a part of our lives and ask all that know him to donate what you can to free his mind to take on this challenge.

With the love and prayers Alan will get through this as our powerful healing GOD hears us in prayer!

Update: As many of you know, Alan and I have been friends for almost 40 years. I, like many of you, appreciate Alan and his amazing spirit. I started this fund raising as a way to give back to someone who gives to others everyday he is out in the community. His smile and kind words brightens the day of the people he meets at work and encounters. I have seen this first hand!

To all who have given Thank You.
From Alan… T H A N K Y O U!

The Tumor: In the eyes of 4 surgeons this was the largest any of them had ever seen. The tumor was unable to “drain” properly due to a blocked drain-tube, thus it continued to grow.

Fast-Forward to surgery day: The head surgeon had taken council with the other 3 and all 4 had differing opinions as to what should be done. The final decision… Put in a “Shunt” to help the main pocket drain, thus shrinking the 1st pocket which would then allow it all to work as the body WOULD do on a normal basis.

Result of the first attempt? So far, so good.

Medical Concerns: Repeat occurrence, a failed shunt, and/or infection.

Recovery: Alan is healing amazingly BUT now hit with possibly pneumonia! As we all know complications come in different forms and will slow the healing.

Alan’s concerns: He misses his work: His “team”, and his “people” (customers) and talks of them daily. He misses just feeling “normal” and – MOSTLY - not having to answer about how he feels all the time! His set of “personal gifts” includes helping others feel better about themselves. Having been with him for a while his smile and humor made BIG points with the hospital staff, and I am sure this is of no surprise who are reading this!

My concerns: While every day that passes and we see our friend, brother, and loved one fight this battle we miss the other things… Additional stress from being out of work, financial and comradery of the people he sees daily. Stress can impede healing… I know this first hand! I am truly grateful for the help and support so far. It will still be some time before Alan can return to work and have life back to “Normal” so if you can help relieve some of the financial stress with a donation and prayers I would appreciate you kindness.

Alan, and his “Bride”, are already feeling sooooo grateful…..Thank you for your donations: PAST – PRESENT – FUTURE.
