I came to the Philippines in February,2013, because I am living on just my Social Security Retirement now.
I previously lived at the Armed Forces Retirement Home(s) in Gulfport, MS (2011), and then to Washington, DC (2012). I was only in the US Navy for two years (VietNam 66-68), but that qualified me to be there. After spending  my time there, I decided to move back out. There are loads of nice people, but I was just 65 and the average age there is 87. I had little in common, other than having served.

Now, I am living in Davao City, and my neighbors are mostly the working poor*. There idea of a good meal is some dried fish, cooked with some ginger, garlic, salt, and some "root vegetables", along with their main staple rice.

I am here on a temporary Visa, allowing me to renew every six months, for up to 36 months before I must exit and come back. I originally set up a GoFundMe account for another charritable project, but never followed through due to Goverment Regs here and in the States.. Now, I have little choices left.

My problem is two-fold. First, I came here because my SS retirement is just enough to live comfortably here (at home, it lasted about 3 weeks or so, until I waited for my next check).

I chose the Philippines mainly because of the Filipino people. They are mostly Christian, speak English, and they are wonderfully nice to everyone! It also helps that is is tropical!!!

When I arrived, it was a new world to me, but has become home, with a sweet Filipina wife at my side. Marlene is my anchor and my helpmeet.

But, recently, my health started going downhill with abdominal pains. After seeing a Gastro specialist and getting a look inside, he diagnosed me with "inflamed bowel" and put me on meds. He told me the biopsy revealed pre-cancerous polyps which will beed to be removed by next year. But, he also directed me to a Cardio specialsit, who has tested and discovered that I had an "event" in my past, and now have been diagnosed with "congestive heart failure". That isn't good.

The problem is that we are broke. Healthcare here is cheap, but not free. Last year, in an attempt to make Marlene more self-sufficient, we started a food truck business, which cost all our savings. In addition, I fought a battle with pneumonia and since then have seen my health suffer more.

So, now, I have two options. Go back o the US and hope to get fixed by their broken system, or to remain here and use the Doctors who are helping me. Either way costs money which we don't have. I get a small SS pension, and we don't live large.

The present need is for an angiogram and then reparative prcedures which could be stint or other. The doctor estimates the cost of the procedures to be around $5-6k and additional $1-2k will be needed for meds and future related expenses.

I hate to beg, but I have no alternative at this point. I have childen, but they are not able to help with money. So, I am asking for donations to this account, so I can begin to get back to my life. For now, I am in bed most of the time, and can't walk for more than 50 yards before being winded. Even taking a shower and toweling off leaves me breathless.

If you can help. please donate. If you can't contribute, please add us to your prayer list.

God will provide!
