For several years, I have been making films with my father, Winston "Winnie" Laszlo. In 2017, I made a film, Ship's Log, out of a summertime motorhome trek across the West. Our most recent collaboration was selected for last year's Denver Film Festival a few months after I graduated college. Last year we happily brewed plans for new adventures and projects. Then, my father contracted glioblastoma, a fast-acting and always fatal brain tumor. And in April, Winnie died.
Along with many others, I miss my father dearly. We are left wondering what to do without his light in our lives.
In the winter, I began working on one more film about him: a feature-length documentary portrait of his life told in images taken by him and loved ones on film, tape, and digital video. It will be a filmic love letter to the man who taught me to love film-making.
Costs include digitization of 16mm film and other analog media, travel, shooting, editing, music composition, and basic living expenses.
