Our Very Own "Ambassador of Good Will" Needs You

Donation protected
Things happened last February 15 (Friday) in a blink of an eye. My father, Medel Balgos, is in Singapore since February 14 (Thursday) together with some of our relatives for a short vacation. They're suppose to attend the 1st birthday of my cousin's son, as they have been invited.

It was that Friday when they went outside to roam around the city and went back to my cousin's place late in the afternoon. About 11PM, my father went to the bathroom and someone heard that he was puking. When he went back to the living room, he's already dizzy and then suddenly unconscious. My cousin immediately called an ambulance. Luckily, medical response arrived after 15 minutes. At the hospital, the doctors immediately scanned my father's brain and after 10 minutes, they informed my cousin that my father is in a very critical condition because there had been a massive bleeding in his brain and had to undergo a surgery. Doctors' called it Severe Stroke. My cousin instantly asked the doctor how much that will cost but the doctor said not to worry about it for now because what they're after is to save the life of my father. After 2 hours, the operation was finished.

Currently, he's still under observation at the ICU in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, a government hospital in Singapore. Doctor's are hoping that his blood pressure will stabilize from 140-160 (diastolic) sooner and that the blood clot in his brain will not worsen, otherwise he'll be in a critical situation again.

We are so lucky that the medical response in Singapore is very fast, the doctors are very professional and the medical technology is at its best, which explains why the hospital bill is getting higher and higher each day. To be honest, we as a family back in the Philippines are not that financially stable but we get by each day. My father does not have a permanent job but had been serving so many people in all ways possible for the past years. My mom does not have a job either because she's the one taking care of her 2 grandchildren. Two of my brothers are currently working but what we are earning collectively is not enough to pay for all the hospital bills and at the same time support our own families in the Philippines, not to mention Philippine peso being converted to Singaporean dollar.

And since my dad came in Singapore as a tourist, he's being charged with the full rate without any subsidy. It was only four days after the operation and we're already being billed for more than 15,000 SG dollars. We're anticipating that, at the rate of his recovery, the hospital bill will reach more than 50,000 SG dollars, covering for at least a month stay in this hospital.

That's why we've created this campaign. We are knocking at your kind hearts for any donation; may it be big or small. We'll appreciate every penny that you will contribute. You know, we call my father as our very own "Ambassador of Good Will". Because no matter what, he will always do things for anyone just to make sure they're okay. And anyone in his life can attest to that. We are not asking that his good wills be returned the same way he did them. I guess we are just hoping that people will truly understand how much we want him to continue to enjoy the beauty of life, with all of us who loves him dearly.

And of course, we'll also ask for your prayers as well, for his fast recovery.

May God shower His blessings on you guys!
