Hello everyone.
Despite my family's initial hesitation to reach out for help, we've decided that this might be one of the few ways we can fund my mom's medical expenses.
Last week, my mom Yasemin got diagnosed with Stage 2 ovarian cancer. If you know anything about ovarian cancer, you probably know that it's often referred to as "the silent killer", because it shows very little symptoms in the first months of development.
A few months ago, my mom's belly started to grow and we all had fun calling it her food baby. Within the last month, her belly has grown exponentially, almost to the size of an 8 month old fetus. Her doctor told us that it was ovarian cancer, and that the swelling was caused by a large fluid mass called "ascites" growing in her abdomen. Apparently, ascites is also a perfect microenvironment for the multiplication of cancer cells. We were told she needed to have surgery immediately, but due to family difficulties, we are unable to be insured either privately or through an employer. Our days consist of trying to make sense of this sudden affliction emotionally. Our greatest worry is for the cancer to spread to other parts of her body.
Ever since investing in rebuilding our house after a series of floods here in Houston, we've had a hard time making ends meet. Any support from you whatsoever to meet our goal of an initial amount of $17,000 to get her admitted to a hospital and have her treatment started will be extremely appreciated. As I write, I realize how big that number is, and we really don't stand a chance without your help. Anything at all will mean the world to us.
