We need your help starting our very first business together and realizing our dreams!!!

What we are doing:
After many years of traveling the world, observing cultures, learning new recipes, searching for the "perfect place" to start a business, and growing our love of the planet, we have finally found what we are looking for! Set just outside the beautiful city of Nelson, just off of highway 3A, lies a little vegan cafe and local artisan gallery that is exactly what we have been looking for.  Surrounded by beautiful nature, walking distance to Kokanee Creek Provincial Park and 20 minutes outside of Nelson on the way to Kaslo, this little cafe and art gallery is perfect for a starter business.

The Appy Cafe will be a community focused cafe, gallery, and event space. We will be personally connecting with local farmers in the area to supply our organic produce; growing local economy, strenghtening independant farms, all while nourishing our guests with the highest quality food. We will be working with 20+ local artists to showcase and sell their art and products, supporting a livelyhood for the local artisans, and celebrating the creativity in life. The cafe will also be used as a space to build community through hosting evening workshops, movie nights for local filmakers to show their work, and live music nights supporting the talented musicians who call Nelson home!

Our philosophy:
After years of working for others in the hospitality industry doing everything from managing to cleaning, private chefing to serving, we are absolutely sure we would be successful having our own place that we could be proud of. Something that embodies our core values and beliefs. We both care greatly about food, health, community, and most importantly, the environment.  This cafe is the perfect business to align these values and push us into the next chapter in our lives. We are trying to create a business that benefits the local community and planet, and can be a model and resource for future businesses.

Sian's bio:
I, Sian, have had a passion for cooking since before I can remember.  At a young age, my mother encouraged me to always help her in the kitchen and I loved learning from her. She is a magician in the kitchen and someone I greatly admired and I quickly aspired to be as good as her. Throughout my growing years, I started cooking more frequently. When I moved out on my own, I continued in my mothers footsteps and spent most of my evenings cooking for and feeding others.  I felt no greater sense of fulfillment than when I had a table full of people, nourishing their bodies with my food and souls with the love shared throughout. It wasn't until I spent a few years in advertising that I realized my sense of worldly adventure and deep yearning for learning the recipes of the world.  I set out into the unknown to travel and learn to cook from all of the generous souls I met along the way. While enhancing my culinary skills, I started becoming more involved and interested in food security and sustainability. I saw the impacts the food industry (among many other industries) had on the environment and its people. I vowed to create a business that not only maintains ethical social and environmental practices, but one that can promote these practices to other businesses and support the people around the world doing their part for each other and the environment. To me, it is each and every integral step forward which defines us as empathetic, loving and nurturing human beings, and while this cafe operation may seem small to some, our business will embody all of these values.

Pat's bio:
I, Patrick, have been following the path of the healthy eating and environmentalism for many years now, and am just picking up steam! Having a background in exercise physiology and a strong passion for outdoor adventures, the need to nourish body and mind through clean food has developed into a driving force of my daily life. I have a strong desire to share the joys of good food to all! Throughout our travels to many a mountain town, we found the common lacking feature was a good sense of community and sustainablility, a factor we believe as being essential to the well being of the people and planet. We have found this alive and well here in Nelson and are excited to be a part of building this as an example of how small business can benefit the local community, and take measures to be a responsible business.

We appreciate anything you can contribute to our goal of $20,000.  We intend to live our lives with integrity and pay it forward to the people and the planet!
