Ocean Springs HS Theater Troupe

Remember…your high school days; you were part of a great athletic team; or a member of a fantastic dance troupe, marching band or maybe the symphony orchestra.  Competing to the top of the district, state or region was the ultimate goal and you dreamed of winning and advancing as far as you could.

We are the thespians of Ocean Springs High School. Located on the Mississippi gulf coast, our high school competition theater troupe has been bestowed a great honor and opportunity to compete at the Southeastern Theater Conference, (SETC) March 1-5, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky.

This past August we began work on our production of “Scenes from Jason and the Argonauts: Argonautika” by Mary Zimmerman, and in addition to more than 200 practice hours, to date, our troupe has performed the full play 6 times for our school and community. We have also successfully represented our school at the district and state level.

Our hard work on Argonautika has earned several accolades:

 District

Two All Star Cast Awards
Best Actress
Best Overall Theatrical Experience
Best Technical and Scenic Award

 MTA (State)

Best Play, Runner Up
Best Scenic Design, Winner
Overall Technical Excellence
All Star Cast Recognition

As thespians we are committed to the art:

The senior thespians performed “Wiley and the Hairy Man” by Susan Zeder for the Theatre For Youth Division, and the piece took home the Overall Technical Award, the top  award for Scenic Design and an All Star Cast award.

The OSHS Thespians also earned several awards in individual competitions.

Costume Design, 1st place
Poster Design, 1st place
Female Monologue, 2nd place
Scenic Design, 2nd place
Makeup Design, 3rd place
Solo Musical, 3rd place

Our Ask:

The financial goal of our troupe is $25,000.  This will be the cost to take our thirty-one-student cast and crew, our chaperones and the full set for our production via bus and trailer to Lexington, KY.  It will pay our travel costs, accommodation, food and conference fees.

Why Us?  What is special about our production?

The road to Lexington has been long and required hard work. Up to now, other than the school district providing a bus, which we are very grateful for, our production has been mostly self-funded through local fundraising efforts and of course the support of our parents.

It has been twelve years since our school has had the opportunity to represent the State of Mississippi in theater.  We are extremely excited but humbled by this opportunity.  We thank you for taking time to read our story.  We hope you will help us achieve this high school dream.
