Oregon Solar Car Team

Donation protected
We are a group of High School students from Bend, Oregon. We accept members from anyone in our school district. Our Team builds solar-powered cars to race as part of the Solar Car Challenge. Each year, this race is held in Texas, both around the Texas Motor Speedway or as a cross-country race to other parts of the country. Our goal is to build a car that is strong, fast, light, energy efficient, and powered by the sun.

In order to continue finding new and innovative ways to use solar energy, we need a motor. The motor system we intend to use has the highest voltage in the history of the Oregon Solar Car Team! The Motor we hope to raise funds for can reach speeds from 50mph to 60mph. We appreciate any contribution you are willing to make. All donations go directly to the building of Lumidos.

We have built two different solar-powered cars. The first, Heliocentric I, was made mostly of aluminum, used motorcycle parts, electric golf cart parts, and the salvage from an old Purdue University solar car. Our second car, Heliocentric II, was made in collaboration with Oregon State University's Solar Vehicle Team. Heliocentric II was primarily made from composite materials, such as carbon fiber and fiberglass, originally intended for a Boeing Dreamliner that had expired in their storage facility. The internal structure is also made from mostly carbon fiber donated to us by Lancair, while other mechanical components would be commonly found in electric racing bikes.
