OPCMC-One Person Can Make a Change

Donation protected
Hello and Namaskar
Jay OPCMC my friends!

I am Samjhana Shakya, an activist working for mitigating ongoing domestic abuses in Nepal. My motto is BREAK THE SILENCE, END THE VIOLENCE.

I have just started a social media campaign titled OPCMC on April 2017. It means One Person Can Make a Change. Yes, I do believe that one person can make a change. That person is me, that person is you, and it is us.
Currently, I am working to increase an awareness among men, women, children and elderly on domestic abuses through  OPCMC YouTube videos, OPCMC facebook page and writing articles on newspapers. My awareness materials help people understand what is abuse? How to identify abusive behaviors? What is gender disparity? Why are daughters disadvantaged gender in Nepal? How we can reduce these disparities and create harmonious families and society.

Within these few weeks, I am greatly motivated by emerging spontaneous support from local people. I have been mostly supported by youth, women, and children who just believed on OPCMC motto and decided to be OPCMC volunteers for their community. The most rewarding outcome of this campaign is, some of the domestic abuse victims have already started to break the silence by sharing their stories with me. I feel the honor to be the first person to listen to their stories. I strongly believe that many more stories should be surfaced, and we all should be together to break the ceiling of a stigma attached to domestic abuse in Nepalese communities.

We need to be united to make people aware of abuses. We need to be united to save the victims currently living in the abusive environment. We need to be united to prevent the abuse in our environment where we live, work and play. Please support this campaign. Please be that one person who can make the change.

My upcoming activities are,

1.       Visiting Nepal and starting an organization to work for OPCMC.

2.       Training local community change agents, for example, local political leaders and volunteers

3.       Training to teachers

4.       Awareness program for community

What I dream further?

1.       Building a safe shelter for domestic abuse victims.

2.       Ensuring equal law for men and women.
