Imagine having a common link between students, community members and a worldwide audience. What if we, as a world community set aside time to talk about one commonality. Since 2007 this has been the goal of #onebooksullivan . This year, we are expanding the program to reach more people here, near, and far away.

A group of Jr. High/Middle School students have come together every year to create this opportunity. While most kids are spending their summer days relaxing, some are spending their time evaluating the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Book Award List .

Since 2007 their goal is to read one book... every week. As the weeks progress over the summer, they meet every Thursday to discuss the book they have read. In this discussion they determine what impact, negative and positive, the book would have on the community. At summer's end, they choose one book from all that have been read to be listed as "The One Book" .

After "The One Book" has been selected, the Sullivan Rotary Club then buys books, LOTS of books, HUNDREDS of books, to be distributed FOR FREE to the community. This year, they are encouraging all local libraries to carry "The One Book".

After the book has been read, as a community we gather together at several locations to discus "The One Book". This year, we are employing Facebook's "Live" application to empower planet Earth to join with us.
In order to meet our goals every year, the Sullivan Rotary Club raises the money to purchase all of the books, advertising, and distribution costs. After all, in life you must give something of value to recieve something of value.
This is where you are important. By donating to #onebooksullivan , you are not only helping to create a sense of global community, but are also encouraging people to become better educated through reading and discussing how one book could impact their lives.
Over the last 10 years, children have been encouraged to become literate, the elderly have been given purpose, and the community has become stronger. We want to share these gifts with the world. Through your giving you stand with us empowering those that have no voice. In giving to our program you are creating a neutral ground which can be the basis of understanding one another.
Please consider helping us today. It would mean a great deal to the children of our community to know that those that those they have never met, believe in their cause. They would celebrate with you in the belief that one book can make a difference.

Through your support we are thankfully continuing to expand the program to it's fullest. Impacting lives around the world, all in the name of peace, tollerance, and a greater understanding of each other. Helping build the bonds of friendship and a world community through reading, discussion, and acceptance.
