Hello my name is Jasmine and I attend Saint Mary's College of California. I will be starting my sophomore year at the end of the month and I am struggling to pay for the semester. I am a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and due to my citizenship I am not eligible to take out federal student loans. My only option is to take out private loans, but I am unable to find a co-signer to take out these loans. The amount I have to pay to attend school has doubled from last year and even with the scholarships that the school has provided I am unable to cover the rest of the tuition.
Expenses:
-Remaining tuition: $13,000
-Room & Board: $15,370 (+meal plan)
-Books: $1,278
-Personal: $2,394
I need at least $5,000 to be able to start the school year on the 27th of August.
Living in Hawaii and being able to attend school in California was an amazing opportunity for me. Arriving on the Saint Mary's campus as a minority I was able to share my culture and learn about others cultures that I was unfamiliar with. It opened my eyes to embracing diversity and accepting the differences of myself and others. Because of this I have decided to major in Global Business and Economics where I have the opportunity to study abroad at a sister school. I have also discovered a passion for the sport of rugby and I play fullback for the Women's Rubgy Team at Saint Mary's.
It is very important to me to finish something that I have started and I am eager to go back to school. Without this money I will not be able to attend this semester and may lose all my scholarships. The semester begins at the end of August and I would be very grateful for any help that I could receive. I don't normally ask for help, but knowing the importance of my education, this is my last chance, my Hail Mary.
