Order of Malta Ambulance Corps Carlow Unit representing Ireland at the World Rescue Organisation Trauma Competitions.

In April of this year, the Carlow Unit of the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps (OMAC) competed in a Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI)* trauma competition held in Nenagh. The Team went on to received 3 accolades in the 'Trauma' category which were:

* Best Team in Complex Scenario – A scenario where two or more casualties needed to be treated.

* Best Voluntary Trauma Team.

* 2nd Place in National Trauma Team – Our placing in the competition also meant that we had beaten a number of international teams who had also attended.

As 2nd place overall competition winners, the Carlow team is eligible to represent Irish Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and compete at the World Rescue Organisation International Competitions being held in Cape Town, South Africa on October 20th – 27th. EMS teams from United Kingdom, Germany, France, Portugal, Romania, Ghana, USA, Brazil, Paraguay, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Colombia, Spain will also compete at this event. Our team will proudly represent both the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps and Ireland in the international competition.

And this is where we need your help…

The team attending the event are:

* Team Captain John Lally, EMT

* Terry Kerschbaum, EMT

* Reserve Ben Millar, EMT

The three of us are looking for your assistance to help us attend and represent Carlow and OMAC. When we are competing, we will be displaying our skills as EMTs and volunteer EMS providers and will be competing against full-time EMS providers from other nations. We will be also promoting the high standards of the Irish EMS system and the professional levels of medical care offered by members of OMAC to an international audience. This will give you an idea of what can be expected: Intro for the 2017 WRO competitions

Through other sponsorship we've managed to secure flights to Cape Town. But now that we're there we need your help to have somewhere to stay. We also need to purchase some uniforms and equipment specifically for the event.

The team and I would be extremely grateful if you would assist in our efforts to attend this international trauma competition. We would like to reiterate that we will be committing to proudly representing our national EMS system and act as ambassadors for OMAC, Carlow and our fellow EMS providers during this competition. All funds are being used to pay for travel and accommodation expenses, entrance fees and is being drawn down by our Team Captain. All accounts are being managed through our auditing system for which  all OMAC units must adhere to.

On behalf of my teammates and I, we would like to thank you for your support :-)
