For those of you who don't know, I've been selected to represent the South African Baseball team at the Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifiers. The tournament is between South Africa, the only team participating from Africa, and 5 of the top teams from Europe. It is set to take place around the 18th to the 22nd of September, 2019.
However, baseball is a peripheral sport in South Africa and therefore receives no funding from the government to aid our cause. This means all expenses are to be covered by the coaches and players. The estimated costs, that has been passed down through management, is set at R35,000 (South African Rand). With the exchange rate as it is right now of 14 Rand to the Dollar, this comes to around $2,500 per player. This covers everything from flights and travel costs, accommodation and uniform costs.
I'm not asking for huge donations. We need to pay for tour in the first week of September which means the deadline for this fundraiser is August, 31st. If I could just reach around 250 people willing to donate just $5-$10 each, that would have me reach my target in no time!
I hate asking for help but it's the only way to get this done. I wouldn't be asking if I had another option. It would mean the world to be able to raise any amount that could contribute to achieving a lifelong dream of attending the Olympics!
