Oliver’s Vet Fund

Donation protected
My name is Christopher Bailey, and this weekend I lost my best friend in the whole world. Here is the story:
On the morning of Saturday, March 31st, I woke up to vomit all over my bathroom. My cat, Oliver, was incredibly lethargic and unable to walk for a long period of time. I immediately gave him a bath, as he was covered in vomit, and took him to the emergency animal clinic.
At the clinic, they gave us a list of everything they wanted to do. It totaled to just under $900. On it were tests of all kinds, covering infection and blockage.
I requested to move forward with just one type of test for the time being. I signed off on the X-rays required for seeing if there was blockage, but signed next to the infection tests stating “I decline these tests at this time” (which was written next to my initials).
After the X-rays, our doctor told us Oliver just had colitis, and she gave us medication to help with his nausea and inflammation. I thought about questioning why not try an infection test, as no blockage was found. Sadly, I didn’t.
After paying just under $700, we took Oliver home. 6 hours later (9:30pm), I called them back saying he wasn’t eating. They told me that was fine, and to bring him back in if he hadn’t eaten until the following morning. 2 hours after that (11:30pm), he tried to go to the bathroom and blood came out. I called again telling them what happened. I was told that that is normal, since he is straining to use the bathroom; some blood can be expected.
I stayed up with him until 2:00am, trying to feed him blended wet food from an eye dropper. At 2:00am I went to sleep. At 4:00am I woke up to give Oliver his medicine and found him dead on my bathroom floor.
I went back to the vet at 10:00am (when their manager came in), and I requested reimbursement for what I had experienced. I understood certain things couldn’t be refunded (the medicine, the exam fee), but I felt I deserved to be refunded for the “radiologist review fee,” which was $205.00. Their manager implied that I was at fault, as infection tests were recommended. I told her I declined them at this time, and I wanted her to see the bill I signed stating that I declined them “at this time.” My intention being that if the X-rays were inconclusive, I wanted to move to those tests. She didn’t get the bill, and only offered me $100.05. I then paid a crematory in Naples to have my baby boy cremated. He’s now back home, but I still miss him with all my heart.
Long story short, I put all these expenses on my credit card. Farrah, my girlfriend, paid for half of the initial bill, and I would like for her to be paid back.
I don’t make enough money to pay this bill off, and any help is appreciated. It won’t bring my best friend back, but it will allow me to focus on moving past this terrible experience rather than the anxiety I have felt about not having enough money.
Any help is appreciated, and even if you can’t help, thank you for reading.
