Oliver's Fight Against Parvovirus

Oliver's Intro
This is my baby. His name is Oliver ("Ollie"), and he's a 9 week-old Pug-Dachshund mix. He has a sister named Penelope who loves playing tug-a-war with him, and a family who loves him beyond words. Ollie was welcomed into our family on December 5th, 2016. Two days later, he was diagnosed with Round Worms and Giardia. Three days after that, he tested positive for Parvovirus. With tear-filled eyes and a heavy heart, I entered Veterinary Specialty Hospital with my baby hoping for any and all help I could receive for Ollie. He was given a 80%-90% prognosis, and for just one second, I allowed myself to be selfish by feeling a sense of happiness when I heard that...because in the end, Ollie was still going to be in pain no matter what.

About Parvovirus
If you haven't heard of this virus before, it is extremely dangerous and contagious. Parvovirus is the leading cause of death in puppies, and reports show that it has a 91% mortality rate if left untreated. It can also stay in the enviroment for up to a year, meaning that if someone were to store puppies who were sick with Parvovirus in the same central location, then that place would constantly be renewed of Parvovirus and is a hot spot for young puppies to contract the illness.

Oliver is a Victim of a Criminal Act
After leaving the hospital, I channeled my pain into research. I knew there were other puppies in this litter, and I wanted to notify their owners of the possibility of them having this virus. The woman who gave these puppies away had passed this off as a rescue situation. She went as far as including fake medical records with forged signatures. I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I started my research, but what I have to tell you now is simply heart-breaking and cruel... Through diligence, I was able to find other victims--not just from this litter, but from all over San Diego with all different types of puppies. As of right now, I have personally connected with 15 individuals/families who have received puppies from this woman--that is 6 more individuals/families from the only 9 that I had connected with the night before. Only 2, including Oliver, are still alive today. It is believed that she obtains puppies who are sick, unvaccinated, or too young and selling them to individuals to make a quick buck. We have graciously worked with the San Diego Humane Society and Animal Control in efforts to stop this woman who I was told was cited a year ago for a similar, if not identical, case.

About Penelope
Regarding my other pup, she is a 5 month-old French Bulldog. She is notoriously known for giving lots of  love and support at the UC San Diego campus. If you're wondering about her health, she has been exposed to Round Worms, Giardia, and Parvovirus but has not shown any syptoms as of right now. She is being treated pre-emptively for Round Worms and Giardia, and the doctors say there is a 7 day incubation period where I should see signs if she gets Parvovirus (today is day 3 out of 7).  I know that so many of you have met and been touched Ollie's sister, Penelope, but I promise you, Ollie will have just as great of an impact on you.

How to Help
In terms of Ollie, well, each night at the hospital, I have a conversation with him that goes something like this, "We are a family of fighters. We love and protect one another. And if you can't fight right now, that's okay, the rest of us will fight for you." So I'm hoping you could please help me fight for and with him. The goal of $4000 is solely for Oliver; this is the estimate I received from his doctor.  And as many of you who know me know, I am a full-time, self-paying, and out-of-state college student who works as a sales-representative full-time. Through tuition, rent, transportation, and normal living (e.g. food) costs, I am struggling not only to see the light at the end of this tunnel financially, but to set my pride aside in asking for help. With that said, if you can help, thank you, and if you can't, I completely understand. Anything is appreciated, even a hospital visit.
