Help us build a Community Hub for Dagenham!
Old Dagenham Methodist Church has been at the heart of Dagenham for almost 130 years. The church has served the community well and it is with your help that we pray this can continue for many more years.
We are now faced with a major problem, our church hall has had on-going structural problems over many years. We have been able to do remedial maintenance until now however, recent structural investigations and reports have resulted in the church being deemed unsafe. Without further major repairs that would only be temporary we have had no other option than to discontinue its use. This has meant that the community groups that meet here and faith based activities are no longer able to use the hall facilities.
We have taken extremely difficult but necessary decisions including the removal of pews from inside the main church worship area which is unaffected by the structural problems, this is in order to enable the space to be utilised effectively and to enable groups to continue to meet.
The work of our Church is to help the community and improve and provide much bigger and better facilites avalible to them. Our vision is to provide much more for the community of Dagenham for many more years to come. We want to be able to provide a building where a number of sports and social based activities can be facilitated from for the benefit of the youth of our community. We also want to provide a community café, and hold activities and support for the elderly.
Now is the time where we must ask for your help in making this vision a reality.
We are planning to do this in three stages. The first is being to provide toilet facilities and make the church completely separate from the Old Hall. This work which is costing £50,000 we have raised already and work commences in May 2017.
The second stage is demolition of the Old Church hall which will take place we hope by the end of the summer. We have £40,000 already raised for this to be completed.
In order to provide this completely new building, provide the facilities and activities we envisage we believe the cost to be around 1 millions pounds, we are trying to raise funds ourselves by other means however cannot overlook the effectiveness of crowd funding.
Since there are several stages involved in this project once these goals of our £250,000 total are achieved we will provide updates on this site to show each and everyone of you who have donated, what your donation to our cause has been able to achieve.
