O. J. Semmes Elementary School is on an all heart mission to enhance educational experiences for our students! Please help us reach our goal. The biggest thing we want to do is send over twenty fifth graders to the National Flight Academy at NAS! #OJSemmesAllHeart
While the Escambia County School District provides resources for the general education of all students, additional experiences and resources beyond the general education curriculum greatly enhance a child's educational experience. This site is a request for a contribution. We ask that each person who is able contribute toward the costs of our supplementary activities and resources at O. J. Semmes Elementary School. Doing so will help pay for the activities and resources, thereby allowing us to schedule and/or provide them as planned. Any contribution amount is welcomed and appreciated.
For students whose families are unable to pay, children will not be prevented from attending the activities or benefiting from the resource. Funds will be prioritized at the discretion of the administration, with input from teachers, to maximize their use effectively. However, if we do not receive enough contributions, we may have to cancel some planned activities and resources.
Planned activities and resources include, but are not limited to, the following:
Field Trips to the Challenger Learning Center in Tallahassee, cultural community events at the Saenger Theater, Pensacola Little Theater, or others as they relate to the curriculum
Field Trip t-shirts (an additional measure of field trip safety and builds community)
24 Fifth Graders to participate in NAS/National Flight Academy Fall Cruise STEM Camp, Learn to Soar
Class sets of books for shared reading experiences
Math manipulatives and games to enhance student understanding
Subscriptions to ECSD approved online websites and programs geared toward fun and engaging review of material and/or the production of student projects using technology (For example, Moby Max, Ten Marks, Powtoon, TimeToast, etc.)
Other educational trips and/or resources as they arise during the year, adhering to the guideline of seeking experiences which enhance and support the curriculum approved by the State of Florida and Escambia County School District
To give you an idea of the type of costs associated with projects such as these, the following are price estimates.
Bus costs for one grade level to go on a local, during the school day field trip: ~$140.00
Bus costs for one grade level to go on an out of county field trip, for one day (not overnight): ~$4,000.00
NAS/National Flight Academy Fall cruise cost for 24 students: ~$10,000.00 ($399.00 per student) The NAS Fall Cruise Learn to Soar description: For three days, students stay overnight and are exposed to a variety of concepts including Meteorology, Aerodynamics, Mathematics, Bathymetry, Physics, Basics of Flight, Ballistics and Search and Rescue fundamentals.
