For the Family of Sergeant Wilson
Sergeant Robert Wilson III was gunned down during an attempted robbery at a North Philadelphia GameStop on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Wilson, an eight-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, leaves behind two children, ages 10 and 1.
"He redefined what a hero is all about," Commissioner Ramsey said.
Officials said Wilson's actions kept store employees and customers from harm, despite an intense gun battle during which more than 50 shots were fired.
The officer had stopped at the store as a security check and to buy a game for his older son for his birthday and as a reward for good grades in school.
*Updated 15 March 2015 to reflect Wilson's posthumous promotion to the rank of Sergeant.

I work closely with the Police Department and upon trying to make a contribution myself, noticed that there wasn't any way for individuals to donate online. I'm coordinating this campaign with the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #5.
This fund has been set up for the family of slain Philadelphia Police Officer Robert Wilson III. Funds raised will be provided directly to the trust fund established by members of the FOP and Police Department.
For more information on donating in person or through the mail, visit http://www.philly.com/philly/news/Fund_set_up_for_family_of_Officer_Robert_Wilson_III.html
"Sgt. Wilson fought a tremendous fight," Nutter said. "Tragic as that day was, we all know that unimaginably, it could have been that much worse. For Sgt. Wilson saved the lives of six, seven, eight people in that store that day. He fought for his family, he fought for our community, he is a true American and Philadelphia hero."
From reporter Sharrie Williams, "There's always a story that comes along and makes you feel good to be a part of it--and this is an example of that. Take a look at the story and hopefully you will feel the joy they felt, even during this difficult time."
You're all part of the positive side of this story and your generosity is going to ensure that these two boys grow up with all of the care and support they deserve.
At the momment, 10,000 dollars has been raised, a mile stone, yes. But bue to the ages of the kids, future of school and other youth needs that the Dad; Ofc Wilson would have provided, more needs to be raised for the Boys Future to complament what will be coming in from the City Life Ins and Union. For the kids and Mom/Wife. Please keep the trend going. Thank You to all envolved. Respectively, Mike Carson
so sad our children are lost for shear foolishness whether life, life in prison or sitting on death row it's the end of life for nonsense. those criminal vagrants went in for what amount to pennies in the real world where most of us live and walked out with a real man's life, more penniless than when they went in and gave their worthless lives to the system. Rest well Brother Wilson. It was not in vain. You gave your life to take two useless idiots off the streets and I feel safer already. Peace and blessings to your family. You will forever be our hero.
