A study completed at the University of Arkansas suggests children from low income families know 30 million words less than their counterparts from high income families. Our goal is to level the playing-field by putting our protégés on paths to reshaping their life-outcomes. The CH4K REWARDS Principles/Pledge represents a starting point.
My name is Ralph Harper and I am Chairman of the Board at Catherine Harper for Keepers (CH4K), a 501c3 nonprofit organization. I am also CEO and Principal owner of DPLOYIT Staffing. In July of 2014 I had the opportunity to meet with President Obama and Valarie Jarrett at the White House. While my one-on-one discussion with the President was brief, I had much more quality-time with Mrs. Jarrett. In the end, Mrs. Jarrett asked me if I would consider playing a role with President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. I agreed and CH4K has been kick off for the purpose of coalescing with My Brother’s Keeper as we strive toward “preparing tomorrow’s leaders today.”
CH4K has four pillars; Fatherhood/Family, Mentoring, STEM and Jobs. Our STEM program aims to place young children from low-income families on path to achieving 10,000 hours of IT training before they graduate from high school. This particular campaign is directly linked with the CH4K Mentoring program. CH4K is officially on a quest to reach over 500,000 young disadvantaged children to get them to sign and live by the CH4K REWARDS Pledge. We are currently working with barbershops around the country and asking the owners to purchase our REWARDS Pledge posters (24in by 30in) to place strategically in their respective barbershop so that young children can read the pledge and sign the “take home” paper copy. We are also asking the children’s parents to video tape their kids reciting the REWARDS Pledge to be shared at www.CH4K.net. As an incentive to videotape the pledges, some children will win prizes for uploading their videos.
In order to succeed on our quest, we MUST engender national support from individuals and communities around the country as we lead our protégés on their journey to the “next” 60’s – the 2060’s. The funds we raise will be used solely for marketing purposes and to hire an individual to spearhead the national CH4K REWARDS Pledge campaign. Please note any contributions made to this project are eligible as tax-deductions.
