Smarty Pants - Odyssey of the Mind

On March 18 of this year, a team of seven 3rd grade students from Cider Mill Elementary School in Wilton and Long Hill School, Connecticut competed against other 3rd through 5th grade teams from across Connecticut in the Odyssey of the Mind CT State competition.  Odyssey of the Mind is an international competition that promotes creative thinking, problem-solving skills and teamwork (https://www.odysseyofthemind.com/p/). Each team must create, practice, problem solve, and presents an 8-minute performance complete with sets, robotics, props, and costumes.  This must be completed by the team members (without outside adult assistance).  Each team must also answer judges’ questions related to their presentation.

The “Smarty Pants” team from Cider Mill placed FIRST in their division!  It was an incredible accomplishment for one of the youngest teams in the competition, and it also means they will be representing Connecticut at the World Finals at Michigan State University from May 24th to 27th.  At the World Finals 2 members – Brianna Hekle and Preethi Vijay from Smarty Pants team will be competing against the best teams from other states and countries including teams from: Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Hungary, Germany, Singapore and Poland.

We are raising money for our trip to the World Finals, and to help offset the costs associated with the team’s travel, shipping of props, lodging, etc.  We are hoping you might consider a donation towards our efforts. The grand total for this trip is $5000; which seems like an enormous number but every donation helps no matter how big or small. Thank you in advance for your support.
