We started this funding drive on behalf of our good friends Dominic (Nick) and Courtney Lautieri.
On Monday, March 2, 2015, their son Grayson was sent from his pediatrician to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence after a period of a fever and fatigue. After several tests, including a bone marrow biopsy and a spinal tap, Grayson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This is news no parent ever wants to hear. As of this writing, Grayson has started treatment at Hasbro. He has had a shunt put in and 3 rounds of steroids. Chemotherapy starts Sunday, March 8, and he is expected to be at Hasbro for 4-6 weeks initially.
Grayson is a compassionate and caring 9 year old and is in 3rd grade in Mr. Galo’s class at Rockwell Elementary in Bristol, RI. He loves more than anything to be with his siblings: Hunter, Griffin, Killian, Ruby, and Ryker. Grayson is also very active and enjoys sports, music, art, the beach, and anything animals. Grayson is a 2nd year dance student at Shannon’s School of Dance with a passion for Hip Hop. And if that isn’t enough, he also has a new found passion – he wants to learn how to surf!
This road is going to be long and uneasy. Nick is a Lieutenant with the Portsmouth Fire Department and operates a contracting business to bridge the financial gap. Courtney is a stay at home Mom and holds up the fort. She is also dedicated in taking care of their youngest, Ryker, as he has Down Syndrome. Due to the extensive dedication that is needed during this battle, all of Nick’s contracting work has been put on hold and medical time with the fire department is going to run down. There is no way to describe the challenge ahead and the uncertainties that come with it. We have stepped up to ask for your support in helping the family keep the financial burden to a minimum.
