Fight Poverty through Fashion

NYORH AGWE is a unique ethical luxury brand that breeds bold individuality. Throughout the brand visuals unfold telling the continuous story of an African girl growing up everywhere except Africa. The journey awakens moments, memories, and experiences blurred between cultural and social barriers to share throughout the collections. It creates a space that enables other individuals to create their own stories; pushing the value of physical items into a spiritual realm.

Stepping back into its roots, NYORH AGWE strives to be a Made in Cameroon brand. According to the 2016 Human Development Report , more than half of Cameroon's population lives below or near the National multidemensional poverty line. The unemployment rate increases everyday with those who graduate schools and find no work or those who cannot afford schools and find no work. To make ends meet those impoverished fall back on the skills not acquired by a book but acquired through culture and passed down from generation to generation; cooking, crocheting, knitting, beading, weaving, farming, etc. However, except from the limited tourism that is in Cameroon, these artisans have no secure platform to encourage their work. It goes unnoticed, therefore remains underdeveloped, resulting in limited sales, and ultimately keeping them under the poverty line.

This is where we come in. We make it a mission to discover these talents (see how here ) Specifically, we have done work in Foumban, Mbamenda, Bamessing, Buea,  and Bangui regions and our goal is to expand. Our products are a result of collaborative efforts between our team and our artisans based in these regions of Cameroon. This creates stable job opportunities in fields that are already well known to artisans. Most importantly, it keeps various dying creative traditions alive. We work alongside our artisans, providing them with additional skills and tools to elevate the quality of their talents so they can become independent. Providing them with a global platform also encourages the visibility and promotion of their work. This year alone we will be showing Barcelona and New York what Cameroon people are capable of.

However, it takes a whole village to raise a child and in the same manner this journey is to be experienced amongst many.
