Hello, my name is Abel Garcia and I live in San Antonio, Texas. I am 10 years old and I am a static quadriplegic and mentally incapacitated. I was not born this way. A tragic accident happened to me when I was only one year old, leaving me in this condition. I use a wheelchair everywhere I go and transportation is a constant challenge.
My grandmother, Blanca Garcia, is my primary caretaker. She is an amazing woman that raised four kids with her husband, who passed away unexpectedly in 2014. She is now raising four grandchildren on her own due to various circumstances. My grandmother says that I am not disabled, but I am special!
All of the family responsibilities fall on my grandmother, and at times it can be overwhelming both physically and financially. As I get older, I get heavier and my grandmother is constantly having to lift me out of my chair into her pickup truck to get me to various doctor's appointments and around the community. She is so great in trying to keep me active, but I see the physical toll that it is taking on her.
MY DREAM is to be able to have a wheelchair accessible vehicle that would eliminate the challenges that we face on a daily basis. Funds are tight and these specialty vehicles can be rather expensive.
This van would solve so many of the problems that we are continuing to face! I would be so grateful if you would assist me and my family in raising the funds to be able to afford one of these awesome mobility vehicles.
