The premise of Head Start is simple: every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, should have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Head Start is a federally-funded preschool program offering comprehensive developmental services to children 3-5 years of age. Children with special needs comprise at least ten percent of the enrollment. The primary components of Head Start are education, social services, preventative health and nutrition. The program focuses on the entire family and includes parent involvement as a fundamental part of Head Start. The New River Community Action Head Start program serves over 300 children.
Federal funding for program transportation services has declined. The parent volunteers of NRCA's Head Start have made transportation a fundraising goal for the New River Valley program. All funds received through this campaign will be allocated directly to NRCA Head Start transportation services.
