It started with a story....
in May 2015, I had one dedicated student return to school 3 hours after an early dismissal to come to Running Club.
We were on our way back from our run, when he turns to me and says "I'm just not allowing myself to give up. This is the farthest I've ever ran, Miss." I could see the pride in his eyes and it hit me hard. I had that "this is why I started this" moment.
As we entered into the parking lot, I looked at this student's shoes. He was wearing basketball shoes and as an experienced runner, I cringed. I knew the pain that was bound to hit him if he kept running in those, so I asked him what size he was. When I got in my car, I wrote a quick facebook status about this kid's dedication and simply asked if anyone had an extra set of size 14/15 men's running shoes and I set off an unprecedented chain reaction. I had clearly underestimated the running community and in the best way possible.
Within MINUTES, I had scores of people reaching out to me about getting this student shoes and looking to donate money to get him a new pair. I was shocked...and extremely touched. When I brought up wanting to get these students into a road race in the community, I got even more responses. So, I decided to create this page in hopes to fund these students' running goals. From that moment, I was able to raise enough money to get my students new shoes and a race-entry into a local 5k. This past fall, the runners successfully completed the Doylestown Fall Harvest 5k. This Spring, we are participating in the 5k/8k Spring Fling Running Festival in North Wales.
The club's goals are about more than running. The club is about opening up doors for students within and beyond their community. It's about networking. It's about encouraging them to explore the world around them and trying new things. It's about getting them to realize their potential in both a physical and mental capacity. It's about seeing how strong they are. It's about learning not to give up, especially on themselves.
All donations will be going towards reaching the club and student's goals. Any and all donations are appreciated. If you are interested in donating shoes, please contact me through this page and I will pick them up personally or give you an address to send the shoes to.
