2nd Round Fertility Treatment

 

Hello everyone, we are here to tell you about Ana and DJ.  We have known Ana for more than twelve years and have built a strong friendship. Throughout all these years we have shared many experiences, emotions and goals that have brought us closer together. One of them was becoming parents.  Xochitl and I are blessed now with our sons, but unfortunately Ana has struggled to achieve that dream.  She and her husband (DJ) have suffered in silence while trying to become pregnant, dealing with the depression, anxiety and grief which accompanies this struggle. 

In her own words, “I was embarrassed to ask for help, but after trying alternative fertility medications such as (Clomid) for months, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) multiple times resulting in two miscarriages, the doctor suggested that because of my low progesterone and ovarian reserve (AMH) In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) would be our best hope to become pregnant. DJ and I decided to take out a loan for the IVF treatment.  We were so excited to start our treatment. During our first ultrasound, the doctor saw 14 follicles. He said the more follicles the more oocytes during retrieval day. But every time, we had an ultrasound the number follicles kept shrinking.  The day of the egg retrieval we knew our egg count was low, but we were optimistic. The day of the procedure for the follicle retrieval, we were devastated to learn that I had empty follicle syndrome, a condition in which no oocytes are retrieved from the mature follicles. Since then it has been an emotional roller coaster for us. We never thought we would have to do more than one round, but we have faith that the next round will work.”
