It will inspire many people to step forward and consider being a living donor - there are people who would consider donating their kidney if they knew the could! This special decision has very real power to save hundreds, and even thousands of lives through creating donation chains from living donors. When I told my loved ones that was going to donate a kidney to someone I've never met some of them laughed, "Here she goes again with one of her ideas. She can't be serious." To raise awareness for living kidney donation, we want to film the entire journey from evaluation, donation, and beyond in a short documentary titled, "Not On My Watch." Right now in America there are 100,000 of our friends, family, co-workers and other associates waiting for a kidney. Patients often have loved ones who are willing donors but due to some type of incompatibility are unable to give this precious gift. For many patients, until a deceased kidney comes around years 3-10 years later, they're left to wait. Unfortunately, for many of them, time will run out before they're able to receive a new kidney.
I know that if other people saw our film, they'd be inspired to take the same action I took if they knew such an opportunity existed. Living donors are out there but we have to get their attention. Most people don't know that you can be a living organ donor - I know I didn't until I see YouTube videos. This film will do the same for others who feel inspired to take the same action I've taken in being evaluted as a donor. To those waiting, this altruistic gift is hope-restoring and life saving
