Northeast Elementary School Garden

A few years ago, a Science teacher and I (Renee Lockwood, Special Education teacher) started the Northeast Elementary School Garden. Working in the Northeast Garden has taught our students responsibility, teamwork, citizenship, sustainability and respect for nature. Our goal is to replace our garden fence and purchase new watering equipment to keep our seeds growing. We will continue to develop accompanying curriculum so more students can benefit from good nutrition and nutritional education.

Students working in the garden benefit from cross curriculum lessons in math, science and socials studies, all the while enjoying physical work outdoors. Our new garden fence will help increase the volume and variety of the veggies student plant and harvest from the Northeast School Garden. It will be hard for students to not to want to at least try bell peppers, carrots or even kale if they've helped to grow it!
