North Baton Rouge Disaster Relief
The funds raised will help families that are displaced and living in hotels, in need of food/water/clothing, and any other immediate need like medication or injury. There will be documentation of who we help and how. All funds will be sent to me to disperse and purchase items needed for the community. I have a very capable team helping me on the ground and welcome all volunteers. If you know someone that needs assistance, please contact me ASAP.
A little about me: my name is Gabrielle Deculus and I am a Baton Rouge native, former Director at Habitat for Humanity, and Founder of @BusinessRulesforWomen.
If you have any questions or want to assist on the ground, please contact me via this website.
Thank you and God Bless!
I write you all today to inform you that I have been stalked since I started the North Baton Rouge Disaster Relief (NBRDR) efforts. This particular individual has been asked more than once to stop popping up at the NBRDR events (including the Backpack Giveaway at Jewel J Newman and last week's NBRDR volunteer workday). I personally told this individual that I would file a police report, if it happened again.
Yesterday, a fake Facebook profile was created under the name "Damien Sernovitz" and it contacted many of the NBRDR GoFundMe donors that have entrusted me to deliver aid to the NBR community. In the message, it said that I am a fraud-- to be blunt. The amount of time that this someone took out of their day to find people from my GoFundMe page on Facebook to slander my name is substantial. There is 473 people on my current donor list.
Needless to say, this has escalated and is being investigated. If you have received this anonymous message from "Damien Sernovitz" please screenshot it and send it to me and report the profile. If you haven't received a message, but want to help-- please report the profile.
I apologize for any confusion this may have caused and hope that my 10+ years of service to communities and the advancement of women in business is what you will continue to associate with my name. I will continue to push forward with the NBRDR efforts and am confident that this will only make me better.
Thank you for your support!
On August 14, 2016 I set out to raise $10,000 to help the people in the North Baton Rouge Community. Today, over $30,000 has been raised and I have an amazing team helping every dollar reach the people who need it most.
Over the last 27 days we have impacted at least 1500 flood victims.
Here's how we did it:
- We purchased items requested from the Southern University Shelter and delivered it ($1300)
- We drove to OKC and picked up 1,000 backpacks for students ($4,000)
-We purchased 600 elementary and middle school uniforms ($2600)
- We purchased emergency prescriptions ($100)
- We gave $100 to 5 victims in shelters for new cell phones ($500)
- We have made a donation to Take Action Now who is also working in the NBR community ($500)
- We have made a donation to the Colt Little League Team ($100)
- We have also made a pledge to help The Future's Fund transport NBR students to their program weekly ($500)
Total Spent: $9300
Along with this, we have started a program where we have sought out referrals for families in need of help cleaning and gutting their homes. Since August 19th we have deployed volunteers to 20 homes, every weekend. Averaging about 2.5 homes per day on Saturdays and Sunday's. (You may have seen the flyers in the past weeks)
Additionally, we are consulting with the (20) homeowners to give additional aid where needed. We are committed to helping each homeowner to the best of our ability and budget. As stated in my initial GoFundMe message, raised funds will help specific needs. We are dedicated to being a hand up, not a hand out.
None of this would be possible without our donors and volunteers. Thank to all that has donated time, energy, money and items for North Baton Rouge. It has been an exhausting month, and we are all very grateful here on the ground.
If you have any questions you can reach me directly via Facebook.
With that, I would like to extend a very warm thank you and appreciation to everyone working for the rebuilding and developing of North Baton Rouge Gary Chambers, Cleve Dunn Jr., Walter Geno McLaughlin, Ada Goodly, Grace Morris, Chauna Banks, Casey Phillips, Tewabetch Negatu, Rex Marshall, Deidre Deculus Robert, Todd L. Sterling, Jason Hughes, Ted James, Byron Washington Mba,and the list goes on and on! You are all so very awesome. If there is anyway I can be of assistance to you or a family you know, please reach out to me!
I've been through more than one hurricane, so I have an idea of what you're going through. Do you have any special/unusual needs that aren't typically met with in-kind donations? Pet food? Special Dietary Needs? Super Plus Size clothing? Bleach? Tents? Tools? I'm working on collecting items for donation and I can steer people in the direction of what you're missing if you can give me maybe a Top 20.
I would love it of you guys would contact me....I have a question for you guys thank you!
