Hello NBA Masters Swimmers;
We are kicking off our 2017-18 Swim Angel Fund this coming Saturday the 18th at Redwood High School. There will be coffee and treats at both workouts as well as FREE swim lessons at 9:45 with your Senior Trainer teammates (no sign ups necessary, just show up and be ready for a few tips to make your swimming better – maybe even faster).
We will be taking pledges and giving away swag…got some very cool items this year!
The Swim Angel Fund is for 2 purposes: 1 – travel assistance to Regional and National Meets for those who have EARNED the trip and need some help and 2 – for SCHOLARSHIP awards for monthly training dues for those in need.
This year we travel to Seattle, Iowa City, Clovis (twice), Orlando and Irvine (plus perhaps a couple of others depending upon the racing schedule). These meets are the “carrot” helping swimmers get up 3xweekly for Strength & Conditioning 5:50-7AM plus 6 weekly swims (we take Friday off but do train on Saturday and Sunday). Last year 9 athletes needed assistance on one or more trips.
Our monthly training dues are $375. Last year 7 athletes needed assistance on a monthly basis.
Our goal this season is to raise $25,000 and have at least 100 Masters swimmers participate. As an idea; $500 buys an airplane ticket, $100 is a room for the night, $40 is dinner. Every dollar does help and adds to the collective ability of the high level swimmer who is dedicated to push their boundaries.
We have 10 seniors this year and all are going to swim in college. While not all of them have made final decisions, thus far we know the following schools will gratefully receive an Angry Tuna in the fall: Dennison, Emory, UC San Diego, Claremont McKenna, University of Wisconsin, and Dartmouth.
Travel to Regional and National meets puts these swimmers on the colleges’ radar. Your contributions make trips and training possible for all who earn/need help. We all gratefully appreciate your support.
