No More Neglect For Ghost

Donation protected

Say hello to Ghost, the Samoyed husky.  She needs our help.

We are asking for your help towards her vet fees. Please read on to find out why.

My wife came across Ghost through her work and rescued her with the help of the local dog warden after it became apparent the previous owner was not able to provide her with care. She had been kept outside with no shelter, a wet piece of carpet for a bed and very little food. Neighbours threw food over the fence and rain water kept her hydrated. She was wet, dirty, smelly and subdued but her friendly personality shone through. The fur around her rear was matted and black with faeces while her thick white coat is yellowed with urine. The first stop was the vets for a check up and some antibiotics and the options for further care were laid out. She was passing blood and had no appetite.

Option 1 was the pound. At nine years of age and with obvious health problems the prognosis for this option filled us with dread for her future and was instantly ruled out.

Option 2 was Grovehill Animal shelter. Dani volunteers here and knows the pressure they are under. With many other animals Ghost would have received plenty of care but stretched and limited resources meant that she might not have received the additional love and attention she needed at this time.

Option 3 was to bring her home and monitor her condition with the choice to revisit option 1 or 2 if we couldn't handle her.

We choose option 3 because she deserves the best chance she can get.  We showered her and a quick trim of the tats revealed bald spots on her front elbows and around her tail.

It also highlighted just how thin she is.

Despite all this her eyes stayed bright and we've soon discovered how beautiful her personality is.  She gets on well with the dogs and cats and her favourite thing is to watch the guinea pigs in their hutch.

She’s been with us a week now and despite our efforts help feed her up and ensuring she's taken her meds her appetite remains poor.  She continues to lose weight and pass blood with no solid stool. We've had to return to the vets and a blockage has been discovered in her bowel.  As I write this Ghost is in recovery at Spires in Omagh following surgery.

We consider ourselves responsible owners and our own dogs are insured to help prevent the shock a large vets bill might have.  Unfortunately the same can't be said for Ghost.  We will do what we can ourselves to help her and we know that Spires Vet Clinic will also do their best to ensure costs aren't excessive but some cost is inevitable.

All we are asking is if you can please donate to help towards vets fees.  When Ghost has recovered and is no longer suffering from these initial problems then the process of ensuring a forever home for her can continue.  With a life span of 10-12 years we’d like to make sure she enjoys the last few years because she certainly hasn’t enjoyed herself in recent times.

We will not use any donations for any other items, general dog supplies etc.  This is purely for treatment costs. Any surplus when Ghost has recovered will be donated to Grovehill animal shelter to help other animals in need.

We will retain all receipts and update regularly on her progress.
