Hello! Welcome to Noah's Three-Legged Journey!

We're a 501c3 cat rescue in Scottsdale, Arizona with a newly minted tripod-kitty! Our tiny kitten friend is recovering from an amputation after being hit by a car before we could rescue him. We're trying to raise funds for his continued care and medications, and to pay for the multiple surgeries he has received. 100% of the funds will go to Noah's expenses, with any in excess of our goal used to feed and care for the 50+ rescued cats and kittens at our facility.

Outside of direct vet care, Noah and his friends at our shelter are taken care of by unpaid, dedicated volunteers. Many animals we care for and adopt out have sad stories behind them and are rescued by vets, our volunteers, and members of the public.

Every time a case like this comes in it breaks hearts. It keeps people up in the middle of the night, it calls you to come to the shelter just one more time on the way home to make sure everyone is okay. You never get used to it - never is a death, injury, or illness any less than gutwrenching.

It's hard... but it's beautiful, too. It's beautiful when they make it out, are happy/healthy, find a new family... and soon... we're hoping a beautiful moment will come when Noah learns how to live gracefully on three legs, we're waiting to celebrate the first torn toilet paper rolls and feet pounces.

Anything you can contribute would mean so much. For any non-profit money is difficult to come by, and that keeps us up at night, too! We are so grateful to all of our donors, adopters, and the staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Join us in Noah's success story!

Here is a little more about us and Noah - his whole story is below.

Noah's Story:

Noah vs. The Car - Surgery 1

Noah is a 3-4 month old kitten who was rescued by Safe Haven For Animals at the end of January 2016 after suffering a hit by a car. He came out of his traffic-tango down only one toe, and nursing a pretty gnarly roadrash trauma  on his right front leg.

In a cast up to his shoulder, he quickly adopted the temporary name Peg(leg). For the first 72 hours or so he wouldn't move, not even a nose twitch, and was given medication and loving by the staff.

Noah and the Missing Nails - Surgery 2

Noah's first check up revealed some dead tissue (not uncommon for this type of injury) and circulation issues had caused all of his paw pads and all but one of his nails to fall off. He was quickly brought in to surgery to clean up, rebandaged, and brought back home to the shelter.

We moved Noah from a situation with a rather roudy upstairs neighbor (Hayden, another sick kitty with all her legs available for stomping) to a quiet room in a recovery condo. He was on anti-inflammatories, and pain medication. We also put him on a low ingredient, grain free, special diet.

Noah has always eaten on his own, and gotten up to use the litter box! His temperment has remained very sweet, and he takes his medicine well.

And Then There Were Three - Surgery 3

On February 22nd, Noah had his second follow up. When our vet took the bandage off... it was heartbreaking. It was clear his bone was infected, and his body was not going to be able to repair the damage. Whenever a kitty is sick in rescue, especially like this, it is heart aching. He had an immediate full amputation of his right leg.

After surgery it was decided that the best place for him to recover would be in a foster home. Our Director had room for him, so off he went to his temporary personal hospital.

Immediately after surgery he required pain medications, and is now on medication for an upper respiratory infection as well. His wound was covered with bandages but is now getting air as it heals.

Tripod Life as of February 26, 2016:

Noah is adjusting to a three-legged-life, he is still very immobile and occasionally "falls over" to the side without the support of his right front leg.

Today (Friday) was his check at the vet, and aside from a cold that just won't go away, he checked out fine and is making a good recovery! We're waiting on photos from his checkup and are excited to post them soon!

We've been learning more about what will be involved in his recovery. How things may be a little different for him than another cat (landing from high places, for example) but since he is so young there is a very good possibility he won't be slowed down.

Keep Following and Keep Sending Good Thoughts!

That's all for now... this boy really needs all the help he can get; we'll keep including updates here and on our facebook so everyone can follow his story.
