VLAD URGENTLY NEEDS SURGERY
“Tough” is the adjective that strikes one’s mind when trying to describe this cute little boy named Vlad. Vlad had no choice but to be tough to go through the severe hardship and struggle ever since he was born two years ago. He and his twin sister were born ahead of time, a little over two months before the scheduled delivery, and were placed in an incubator for another two and a half months to reach their normal weight and other vital parameters. During the time spent at the hospital Vlad struggled his way through various challenges, one of which was pneumonia. Finally, when Vlad and Eva were checked out to go home, their parents sighed with relief thinking this would be the end of their sufferings. However, a new battle awaited the family. Several months later Vlad was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss which eventually led to complete deafness at the age of about 10 months. As shocking as this news was for Vlad’s parents, they realized they had no time to lose and made a firm decision to do whatever it takes to just make their kid happy. Vlad was assigned to wear hearing aid devices by his doctor, which he is wearing to this day. His mom dedicates almost all her time to Vlad’s well-being, taking him to the doctor for periodical check-ups, attending a speech therapist, etc. Nevertheless, the ultimate solution that will allow Vlad to hear is the inner ear, the so-called cochlea implant. The implant and its speech processor are to be installed by means of a surgery, the cost of which is beyond the family’s paying capacity. As of now, Vlad’s father is the only bread-winner in the family, earning just enough to satisfy subsistence level needs.
Although the familiy received the considerable amount of 8,000 Euro from the German help organization 'Ein Herz fuer Kinder' as a financial support there are still another 8,000 Euro needed to make this project possible and to get Vlad out of the world of silence.
The mother and father of Vlad are in the pursuit of happiness for their dearest child and they firmly believe that through hearing Vlad will be able to study the world and integrate with the society, which undoubtedly makes the happiness complete. Once he’s introduced to the world of sounds, he will be able to communicate and enjoy life in his own way, as we all do. Isn’t that what each parent would dream for their child to achieve?
