No Booze for a Month (Not Dry July)

This is my family.

In late May 2018, my amazing wife, Bec was diagnosed with stage III bowel cancer.

Along with the massive shock that this brings to me and my family, comes the realisation that we are incredibly blessed. We have amazing family all around us, on all sides, along with a fantastic network of friends that we have invested in over the years. Our support network is nothing short of amazing, and has given Bec the support she needs to fight this, and has given me the support I need to be there for her.

Many who are afflicted with similar situations have simply not the resources or opportunities to have these support networks around them.

Being the logical, research driven people we are, we looked into what resources our wider community provides for our fellow South Australians, in what we know from personal experience, is one of the most harrowing and frightening experiences any family can go through.

Bec found the Cancer Council of SA .

This is an amazing organisation that provides (and has provided to us) brilliant counselling and material support to help us through this challenge. For those people and families that are not as well resourced as us, and need it they provide so much more...

Help Families Ripped Apart by Cancer

On July 2nd, my wife undergoes her first round of Chemotherapy.

This is daunting and scary for her and I need to be there for my family. So I have decided to go a full month (starting on the 29th of June) without alcohol. For those that know me, this is quite "a thing" and includes both the "Beer and BBQ" and the "Adelaide Winter Reds" festivals. Both have traditionally been very significant events in my calendar.

I am doing this for many reasons.

I want to demonstrate to my wife that I am there for my family in a material way, and

I want to give my friends and colleagues a way to not feel so guilty about the occasional tipple this month, by donating to The SA Cancer Council, in my name.

Please use the donate link on this page and 92.75%* of your donation will be presented to the Cancer Council in August, followed by a few light beers nearby :) (Details TBA)

---This website keeps 7.25% as an admin and transaction fee.

---During this month I will be posting videos and blogs as we share our journey.
