Birth Trauma Therapeutic Group
I am putting together a therapeutic support group for moms that have experienced traumatic childbirth.
This is a 'thing' that just isn't talking about much. We are beginning to have more conversations around #realmotherhood and that mothering is hard. We are talking more about postpartum anxiety and depression and there are multiple support groups out there for these moms.
However, time and time again when talking with the moms I work with in individual sessions that have experiences a traumatic childbirth, there are three common themes:
1. They don't think anyone wants to hear their story
2. They don't think anyone else has ever experienced what they went through or
3. they have a lot of shame and guilt around how their child was brought into the world.
I don't think that a therapeutic support group can ever change what happened - but I think it is a good way to get moms in the same room and talking about their experiences.
The groups will be very structured and you can find more about that on the website.
The donations will be used for the following costs associated with running the group including: rent, insurance, transportation / parking, and facilitator hours (and maybe one day the cost of childcare).
The breakdown is about $40 per session per person and the group will be capped at 8 participants. My goal is to minimally be able to pay for one participant to not have to pay anything - but the more raised the more services we will be able to provide.

We did it!! We met the goal and the space is secured! This means the amount per session will be decreased for every mom that can attend! Thanks for the donations. More donations mean that more moms will be able to attend without fees or with support of transportation.
