Thank you to everyone who was in the streets this past weekend or supporting those who were in whatever capacity you could. The masses stood up and said No to Hate in the Bay. It was beautiful. There are so many victories to celebrate, but perhaps none more so than the fact that both neo-nazi rallies were cancelled by the organizers because of the overwhelming energy of resistance felt from San Francisco to Berkeley.
The Guild had 100 Legal Observers in the streets. Dedicated volunteers staffed our legal hotline around the clock. We dispatched lawyers to make sure anti-fascist arrestees' medical needs were addressed, get them released from jail, and fight criminal charges. As an anti-racist, anti-oppressive organization, we defend progressive movements and refuse to provide legal support to white supremacists.
While the weekend is over - the work has just begun. This includes countless Know Your Rights and legal self defense trainings for immigrants and activists, advising movement groups, and producing a Know Your Rights video series. We've been training hundreds of new legal observers, legal hotline workers, know your rights trainers, immigration court monitors, and new movement defense lawyers. We're preparing for ICE raids, as one of the Norcal Rapid Immigration Response Network coordinators. We're working in coalition to prepare for "Free Speech Week" next month hosted by conservative groups on the UC Berkeley campus.
The NLGSF Bay Area Chapter is funded almost entirely through contributions from members and supporters. That means without you ... there is no us.
We have a goal of $10,000 for this drive to sustain our work over the next few months. Your contributions will increase our ability to accept collect calls from jail, process filing fees and discovery fees for defense attorneys and increase our tech security.
