Hello,
My name is Mikeal Carpenter. I am 12 years old and am in the 7th grade. I live in Suitland, Maryland with my grandparents most of the time. I started playing tennis when I was just two years old using a form ball to hit on the wall in our living room. My Grandfather taught me how to play and has been my major supporter for the game. At first it was hard to find a place for me to train because I was too advanced to be in classes with kids my own age. We finally found a good fit for me at the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD, where there were kids at my level. I have been training there since I was eight years old.
In order to continue in this sport I need some financial support. My grandparents have taken care of all my expenses so far; they both are retired and have exhausted all of their funds they have set aside for my tennis development. And other family members have helped along the way also but in order for me to have a successful year this year (2015) I’m going to need to raise at least $5,000.
Last year (2014) I played in 27 tournaments in my region and was ranked number five in my section. I would like to play in the same number of tournaments or more this year and play in at least one national tournament in Miami, FL which would be the most expensive trip for me. I would get to play against other juniors from all over the world.
My favorite tennis player is Roger Federer, I like how cool he is when he plays, and I try to be the same way whenever I play and plus we both have a one-handed backhand. One day I would like to become a top 10 player on the ATP tour. I would like to go to the U.S. Open and see some of my favorite players play live. I was at the Citi Open and got to see the players in person and it was a lot of fun to watch.
I would like to go to college and play tennis at a top university such as Stanford. I would probably major in a business program or study something in the sports field. I also like to play golf, a little basketball, chess and ping pong. I like listening to music, playing the saxophone and playing video games.
Just to be able to play a competitive sport like tennis I need money for entry fees, equipment like rackets, stringing, shoes, clothing, etc., travel and miscellaneous stuff. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated whether large or small it doesn’t matter it all adds up.
