Building Doña Julia a home after Hurricane María

Tax deductible
English below

Gracias!

Un Techito Para Mi: Doña Julia’s House

Doña Julia its 67 years old and suffers from diabetes asma, hypertension, glaucoma and mobility issues due to a leg surgery. She lives in Villa Marisol, Toa Baja, a community with very high poverty levels.

Hurricane Maria caused severed damages to her roof, but the house has serious structural problems that we need to fix before we can build a new roof because as it is it won’t support it, we are surprised the whole roof hasn’t collapsed as of yet. This is our biggest projects to date. We will be rebuilding all the walls that would support a structural roof, the design was made by a structural engineer and a construction company will be in charge of the construction because of the scale of the project and the expertise needed.

Doña Julia doesn’t have the financial means to do the repairs herself and the FEMA assistance she received was barely enough to buy a new refrigerator. Doña Julia’s mother passed away after Hurricane Maria while suffering an asma attack because they didn’t have power for her medical equipment so this case is really close to our hearts.

We had to wait months to get construction permits and now we finally have them, but we are short on the funds we need to cover the construction costs which were estimated at $5,500 aproximately.
We received a partial donation of materials from a local hardware store and have received $1433 in donations from private individuals but we are still short. We estimate based on the materials quotes that we still need around $3,500 to be able to have all the construction materials we need to finish the project.  This is our most ambitious project to date but we need your help to be able to do it!

Un Techito para Mi is a project done between two non profits organizations, Victims of Violence Advocates(VIVA Foundation) in alliance with Fundación Niños De Nueva Esperanza(501(c)(3)).
