Nina's Miracle

This is Nina Butera - Alexsander. She was born early Friday morning ( March 10, 2017). Her parents are Daniel Alexsander and Rachel Butera.
It was a normal birth, and like every birth there was much joy and anticipation of the parents and grandparents. Daniel and Rachel wanted to keep the baby's gender a surprise, but as nina was born Daniel was so caught up in the moment watching mommy hold the baby that he didn't even think to see whether it was a boy or girl until he heard grandpa in the background shouting, "is it a boy or girl?" Only minutes after Nina was born, the doctors noticed that she was struggling to breathe. The first thought was that it was Transient Tachypea of the newborn (TTN), which means there could be some fluid in the lungs, and just a temporary condition. However after a bit of time, it was obvious that it was something else.
Nina was put on a CPAP machine and her oxygen level still did not go up. An echocardiogram was done and Nina was found to have Transposition of the Great Arteries. This is where the two main arteries in the heart are switched so that the oxygenated blood from the lungs goes to the heart and then back to the lungs and the un-oxygenated blood goes to the heart and then back to the body. However, because of the holes in the chambers of the heart, the oxygenated blood is able to mix and circulate with the un-oxygenated blood.
At this point Nina is a living miracle. She has been taken off the oxygen support and is maintaining an acceptable oxygen level. One of the Doctors stated, "I have never seen a baby look so healthy with this condition, it is a miracle."
Currently Nina is getting ready to be transported to Singapore where she will be prepared for open heart surgery to switch the arteries and repair the holes. This procedure has been very successful and the patients often recover quickly and go on to live normal healthy lives.
The procedure and care is very costly and time is of the essence. We are trying to raise $60,000 which will help to cover the cost of this procedure. Please help us give Nina the care she needs.
Nina's name means " dreamer," and we believe that even now God is giving her mighty dreams for her to fulfill in her life. We invite you to be a part of helping her realize her dreams.
